Northwood Women’s Soccer Announces 2025 Schedule
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University women's soccer program announced its 2025 season schedule Friday (June 27).
2025 features a 17-game slate with the season opener against in-region foe Saginaw Valley State on September 5. This is the first matchup between the two schools since November 2021, when the Cardinals escaped with a 1-0 victory. The 2025 season starts with the first five matches on the road.
The early season continues with a trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to take on Michigan Tech (Sept. 11) and Northern Michigan (Sept. 13). That trip will round out Northwood's out-of-conference schedule before starting their 14-match Great Midwest Athletic Conference slate on September 18 at Ursuline.
Head Coach Mike Korhonen sees plenty to like in this year's schedule.. He stated, "Our three regional matchups against strong GLIAC opponents—including local rival Saginaw Valley State and defending GLIAC champions Northern Michigan—will be a great test to prepare us for conference play. We're also excited and motivated to take on home-and-away series against the other teams that have consistently finished in the G-MAC's top four."
Northwood returns home for its long-awaited home opener against Findlay on September 25, following five straight road games to start the year.. The Timberwolves split the regular season series with the Oilers last season before Northwood took a 4-1 win in the G-MAC Tournament semis, advancing to their second straight conference title match.
Over the past two seasons, Northwood has won a combined 28 games, the most in any two years in program history. They boast a 28-7-8 record overall and a 21-3-4 record in conference play under Korhnen. Korhonen spoke on what it will take to keep the momentum going forward. "To reach our goals for the 2025 season, we have to take the season a day at a time. We cannot look ahead, just work to be great on each given day."
Northwood's home dates continue with matches at the newly renovated Dean Field. The Timberwolves match up with Thomas More on September 27 under the lights in the program's first night game in Midland. They also host reigning G-MAC champs Ashland on October 15, Ohio Dominican on October 18, Cedarville on October 22, and Malone and Lake Erie on October 30 and November 1.
The Timberwolves bring back much-needed depth. Seniors Mia Thomson, Reagan Brengman, Ava Kettler, and 2024 G-MAC First Team honoree Carly Boyd will captain the squad after standout careers at Northwood. Korhonen said, "We expect them to set the tone for a winning season. Added to that, we have Ella Boyd coming off of a G-MAC Freshman of the Year season, and our goalkeeper Lindsay Jacob, who has set numerous program records in her two years between the goalposts. Several others are stepping into new roles and are ready to make an impact. We'll need everyone on the roster competing to reach our goals."
The regular season will wrap up on November 4 as Northwood heads to Ashland. The 2025 Great Midwest Women's Soccer Championship Tournament will begin on November 8, with the top six teams competing on the campus of the higher seed. The semifinals will take place at the highest remaining seed's campus on November 13, and the champion will be crowned on November 15.
