RECAP: Northwood women's soccer opened 2025 on the road just down the road at Saginaw Valley St. The Timberwolves and Cardinals matched up Friday (September 5) afternoon for the teams' for meeting since 2021. In a very windy match, Northwood took home the 1-0 win.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Northwood's Ashtyn Lange put two shots on target early in the match, both saved by the Cardinals' keeper. Those chances were the highlights of a quiet first half, as the teams combined for just five shots.
- The wind played a major role in slowing the pace of play during the first half, but momentum shifted after the break. Both sides tallied four shots within the first 10 minutes of the second half.
- Ava Kettler broke through in the 60', giving Northwood a 1-0 lead. Her second career goal came from a left-footed strike outside the 18-yard box, curling up and over the keeper into the top right corner.
- The Timberwolves' defense held firm over the final 30 minutes, despite playing down a player following a 77' red card. Goalkeeper Lindsay Jacob made five second-half saves to preserve the lead, recording her 14th career shutout to extend her school-record mark.
- Northwood closed out the match for a 1-0 victory, its first win over Saginaw Valley State since a 1-0 home result on April 24, 2021 (COVID-shortened season).
