MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's and women's tennis team were well-represented on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Teams, which were announced Friday (April 29).

Head Coach Mike Rose was named the Coach of the Year on the women's side. Five student-athletes were named to the Women's All-Conference team, while two men were also recognized.

On the women's side, Rafaella Fulop and Elizaveta Velichko each were named to the First Team. Sanvi Ahluwalia and Rafaella Platsiota each earned Second Team honors, while Iryna Trystan was placed on the Honorable Mention Team.

The men's program placed Leon Grundstrom on the First Team. Max Wild was named Honorable Mention.

Rose is the second coach in Northwood University tennis history to earn GLIAC Coach of the Year honors, joining Zane Colestock. Now in his second year as head coach of both the men's and women's tennis programs at Northwood, Rose led the women's team to the GLIAC Championship and the No. 1 seed in the GLIAC Tournament. He also led the men's team to an impressive turnaround season, taking the Timberwolves from an eighth place finish in 2021 to tie for fourth place this year.

Fulop, who earned Second Team All-GLIAC last season, took a big step forward this year for Northwood. She played mostly at the No. 2 singles position, going 12-7 overall and 6-1 in the GLIAC. Fulop also went 9-7 overall (6-2 in the GLIAC) at the No. 3 doubles position.

Velichko earned First Team All-GLIAC honors for the second straight season. She went 11-5 overall at the No. 1 singles position, which included a 7-1 record in GLIAC play. Velichko also posted a 9-7 record in doubles (6-2 in the GLIAC) with Fulop at the No. 3 position.

Ahluwalia was one of the top newcomers in the GLIAC this season, going 12-8 overall (6-2 in the GLIAC) in singles, mostly from the No. 4 position. She also teamed with Platsiota to go 11-9 in doubles overall (5-3 GLIAC) at the No. 2 position.

Platsiota was another one of the best freshman in the conference. She posted an 11-8 record in singles (5-3 GLIAC), mostly from the No. 3 position. Platisota then partnered with fellow freshman Ahluwalia to go 11-9 in doubles (5-3 GLIAC) from the No. 2 slot.

Trystan was one of the top doubles players in the conference, teaming with Ekaterina Vorobeva to go 11-7 overall (7-1 in the GLIAC) from the No. 1 position. She also went 12-8 overall (7-1 GLIAC) in singles from mainly the No. 5 position.

Grundstrom was Northwood's top player in singles this season, going 9-9 overall while posting a 5-2 GLIAC record. He also picked up five wins overall (three in the GLIAC at the No. 1 doubles position with partner Mathis Violet.

Wild played throughout the NU lineup, seeing time anywhere from two to five singles. He settled into the No. 2 position by the end of the year. He went 8-10 in singles overall (3-4 in the GLIAC).
