Track Teams Compete At GLIAC Championships
The Northwood University track and field teams competed at the 2013 GLIAC Championships Wednesday-Friday (May 1-3).
This year's event was hosted by Ashland University.
The women's team placed 11th overall with 19 points. Grand Valley State was the overall winner with 220 points, followed by Ashland with 109. The highlight of the event was the performance of Madison Pines in the 1,500 meter run. She clocked a time of 4:39.93 to take home first place overall in the event. Pines was already ranked among the nation's leaders in the event prior to the GLIAC Championships. Kelsey Burgess earned a fifth place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:10.62. Danielle Miller was fifth in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 38:10.52.
On the men's side the Timberwolves also placed 11th with 13 points. Ashland was the overall winner with 199 points, followed by Grand Valley State at 169. Danielle Capek registered an NCAA provisional mark in the hammer throw for the second straight week. His toss of 189-07 was good for fifth place overall. The Northwood 4X400 meter relay team claimed a fourth place finish at 3:17.81, while Silas DeKalita was seventh in the 10,000 with a time of 31:35.08.
