Volleyball Splits Pair At North Alabama

For the third straight day of competition, the Northwood University volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday afternoon (September 13).  The Timberwolves dropped a 3-1 match to Rollins (25-22, 25-14, 23-25, 25-15) before sweeping North Alabama 3-0 (25-10, 25-22, 25-19).

Northwood is now 3-3 on the season.

ROLLINS 3, NORTHWOOD  1

Thirty-one attack errors by the Timberwolves proved to be the difference for Northwood in a loss against Rollins.  Rollins held small advantages in kills (46-44) and digs (75-73), but had 13 fewer attack errors and six more blocks than Northwood. Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine) led Northwood with 16 kills, while Cassandra Marsh (Maumee, Ohio) had nine kills and no errors on 19 attempts (.474). Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) had seven kills and a team-high 19 digs.

NORTHWOOD  3, NORTH ALABAMA 1

Northwood came out strong against North Alabama, dominating the first set 25-10.  The final two sets were closer, but the Timberwolves came away with the sweep.  Northwood hit .184 for the match (36-17-103) while holding UNA to a -.010 mark (22-23-99). Pakhomenko  had 12 kills and two aces to lead the way for the Timberwolves, while Kramer and Kristin Perschon (Schaumburg, Ill. /Conant) each added six kills. Jordan Dunn (Bowling Green, Ohio) had four kills and 29 assists for the Timberwolves.

Northwood will take on UMSL and Harding Saturday (September 14).  The UMSL match begins at 10 a.m. while the Harding contest gets under way at 6 p.m.
