Volleyball Posts Second Straight Road Sweep, Defeating Ohio Dominican 3-0
The Northwood University volleyball team posted its second straight GLIAC road sweep Saturday afternoon (September 28), defeating Ohio Dominican 3-0.
The Timberwolves are now 7-5 overall, 2-2 in the GLIAC. ODU falls to 6-6 overall 1-3 in the GLIAC.
In the opening set, Northwood held a slim 21-20 lead late when the Timberwolves took over. NU earned four of the final five points to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Northwood hit .257 (16-7-35) while ODU finished at .135 (11-6-37).
The Timberwolves offense took over from that point on. Ohio Dominican had a pair of strong sets offensively, hitting .231 and .343, respectively. But that was no match for Northwood – the Timberwolves had 19 kills and one error in the second set (.409) followed by 20 kills and four errors in 35 attempts (.457). Overall, 39 of Northwood's last 52 points came on kills (75 percent).
For the match, the Timberwolves registered a season-best .377 attack percentage. Northwood had 55 kills and 12 errors on 114 attempts overall. ODU finished at .234 overall (38-12-111). NU finished with a 46-36 edge in digs and a 6-4 edge in blocks.
Northwood's outside hitters were dominant in the contest thanks to the efforts of Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukrain) and Krysta Kramer (Grand Ledge, Mich.). Pakhomenko matched her career-high with 24 kills on 36 swings, good for a .583 attack percentage. She also added three aces, eight digs and three blocks, good for 28.5 points overall. Kramer had a career-high 15 kills on 29 attempts to finish with a .379 attack percentage.
Jordan Dunn (Bowling Green, Ohio) had 44 assists and 10 digs, while Elizabeth Barker (Williamsburg, Ind./Northeastern) finished with a match-high 15 digs.
Having spent four weeks and 12 matches away from Midland, Northwood will play its first home match of the season Tuesday night (September 28). The Timberwolves will take on Hillsdale at 7 p.m.
