Volleyball Inks Four In Early Signing Period
The Northwood University volleyball team has announced the signing of four player to National Letters of Intent.
Hailey Huffman, Hailey Jones, Allison Getty, and Sydney Greulich have all signed National Letters of Intent to join Northwood in the fall of 2014.
"This class has relatively good size, and addresses most of our needs with the graduation of five seniors this fall," said Head Coach Tim Koth, who is in his 10th season as Northwood's head coach. "What I really enjoy about this group is the energy, enthusiasm, and passion they bring on a daily basis to the way they play the game. They are volleyball junkies and that is an infectious quality – needed to be great at this level."
Information and Coach Koth's comments on each:
Hailey Huffman - (6-4, MB, McComb, Ohio) – Huffman played volleyball for McComb High School and Black Swamp Volleyball Club. Her High School Team went 27-1, was ranked #2 in the state, and advanced to the Ohio State Volleyball Championship Round in her senior season this fall. Hailey has a 3.9 GPA, and her parents are Heath and Lori.
Coach Koth's Comments – "Hailey has such great passion about the sport – that might be her biggest attribute - but from a playing standpoint she has great size and versatility. We look for her to come in and contribute in the middle as well as on the right side. The desire that she has to get better, and the passion she has about winning will make her a great Timberwolve – I look forward to coaching her."
Hailey Jones – (5-10, S, Ada, MI) – Jones played for perennial high school power Forest Hills Northern and DFFO National Volleyball Club. Her high school team was ranked for most of the season, and her club program is one of the top in the State of Michigan – going undefeated in winter power league play, and placing highly in their national competitions during the spring. Hailey has a 3.5 GPA, and her parents are Stuart and Wendy.
Coach Koth's Comments- "Hailey is a very bright, vibrant personality – which is perfect for the setting position. She has enormous experience playing with DFFO against top regional and national competition. Her delivery is very solid, and she makes good decisions in running her offense. I look forward to training her, and the contributions she will make for Northwood as a strong competitor and solid setter."
Allison Getty – (5-10, OH, Wayland, MI) – Getty plays for Wayland Union High School and DFFO National Volleyball Club. Her high school team is ranked #2 in the state of Michigan, and at press time – was competing in the MHSAA final four in class B. Teammates with Hailey Jones in the DFFO program, she has gained the same regional and national experiences as a starting outside attacker. Allison has a 4.1 GPA, and her parents are Mike and Kim. Kim is also her high school coach.
Coach Koth's Comments – "Alli is a very skilled, polished six rotation outside attacker. Her floor skills are strong, and she has an excellent arm swing. She is a fierce competitor who expects a very high level of play from herself and her teammates – a winning quality. I expect her to continue to improve her game this winter/spring and have a chance to be a strong contributor next fall."
Sydney Greulich – (6-1 MB/OH, Kitchener, Ont.) – Greulich plays for St. Mary's High School and KW Predators Volleyball Club in Kitchener, Ontario. She is one of the top players in the Province. Sydney has a 3.0 GPA and her parents are Stephen and Alison
Coach Koth's Comments – "I first saw Sydney in power league play down in Ohio. She is a very intriguing prospect. She is tall, athletic, lean, and can play any one of the front court positions. She is very good attacking off one foot, and can be a dominating blocker. She – as with all of our new players in this class – has a great passion about volleyball, and has dedicated herself to be the best player she can. I think she has the potential to develop into a dominating net presence."
Northwood University is currently the No. 3 ranked team in the NCAA Midwest Region, and currently competing in the GLIAC Tournament.
