Volleyball Loses To Michigan Tech 3-0
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Michigan Tech Saturday evening (September 13). Set scores were 25-15, 25-20, 28-26.
Coming off a tough five-set loss the night before, the Timberwolves never found their rhythm against the Huskies today. In the first set, the score was tied 12-12 before Michigan Tech rattled off 13 of the final 16 points to earn a 1-0 lead.
The second set was very similar to the first, with Michigan Tech taking control late in the set. Northwood led 16-14, but MT scored seven of the next eight points to open a 22-17 lead. The Timberwolves got within three at 23-20 only to see the Huskies score the final two points to go up 2-0.
It appeared the Timberwolves would cut the lead to 2-1 in the third set, leading for the majority of action. Northwood was up 7-3, 15-8 and 22-16, but MTU finished strong once again. The Huskies scored six straight points to level the score at 22-22. Northwood had three set points but were unable to clinch the set. The Huskies earned the victory on their first match point.
For the match, Michigan Tech hit .191 (39-18-110) while Northwood hit .093 (29-20-97). Serving was a huge part of the MTU win, as they finished with a 10-4 edge in aces.
Meghan Cleary (Howell, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) and Allison Getty (Wayland, Mich.) each finished with eight kills to lead the way for Northwood.
The Timberwolves will travel to Hillsdale Friday (September 19). First serve is set for 7 p.m.
