Sydney Hasenfratz Named G-MAC Freshman of the Year - Brines Named All-Conference

ASHLAND, OHIO – Sydney Hasenfratz, a redshirt freshman on the Northwood University volleyball team, has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Freshman of the Year.

Hasenfratz is the sixth Northwood athlete to earn conference Freshman of the Year honors in program history and the first for NU since Gorana Maricic in 2004.

In addition, Hasenfratz was named First Team All-Conference. Fellow freshman setter Renee Brines was named Third Team All-Conference.

Hasenfratz became one of the top performers in the conference in her first season on the court. She currently leads Northwood and ranks second in the G-MAC in kills (3.50 per set), blocks (1.11 per set) and points (4.44 per set). Over Northwood's last 13 matches, Hasenfratz averaged 4.2 kills, 1.41 blocks and hit .333 while averaging 5.23 points per set. In Northwood's match against Hillsdale October 18, Hasenfratz had 34 kills. That is the third-most for any Division II player this season and the most for any freshman in DII since at least 2013.

Brines took over as the starter early in her freshman season and turned in a strong first year at setter. She finished the regular season ranked third in the G-MAC in assists per set (10.04). Brines led Northwood and ranks 15th in the conference in aces (0.34 per set). She also stands with 64 kills and a .312 attack percentage while ranking third on the team in digs (2.07 per set).

Northwood will open the G-MAC Tournament with a match against Hillsdale Thursday (November 10). First serve is set for Noon.
