INSIDE THE MATCH

• Saginaw Valley started the match with three straight and seven of the first 10 points. Northwood got back within three at 9-6, but that proved to be as close as NU would get the rest of the year. The Cardinals led by as many as 13 before taking the opener 25-13.
• Set two was tied 4-4 when Northwood went on a run. NU scored 10 straight and 12 of the next 13 points to go up 14-5. The Timberwolves led by as many as 12 before on their way to a 25-17 second set win to level the match 1-1.
• With set three tied 4-4, the Cardinals scored four straight points for the early advantage. Northwood got no closer than three points the rest of the way, as Saginaw Valley took the third 25-17 for a 2-1 lead.
• Northwood used a 4-0 run to break open a 14-14 tie in the fourth to take an 18-14 lead. The final stretch of the match featured runs for both teams – Northwood led 21-17 when Saginaw Valley scored three straight to get within one at 21-20. NU responded with three of the next four to set up a pair of set points at 24-21. SVSU finished the match with the final push, scoring the final five points to take the set 26-24 and the match 3-1.
