Volleyball Loses At Thomas More 3-2

INSIDE THE MATCH

• The opening set was tied 7-7 when Northwood took control. The Timberwolves went on a 14-3 run to push their lead to 21-10. NU finished off the set 25-15 for a 1-0 lead.
• Thomas More responded with a fast start in set two, leading 7-3 after 10 points. The Timberwolves did not go away, eventually coming back to take an 11-10 lead. That is when they key stretch of the set came, as the Saints scored eight straight points to take an 18-11 lead. Northwood got no closer than five the rest of the set, which was won by TMU 25-19 to even the match.
• The Saints came out with four of the first five points in the third, after which Northwood dominated play. The Timberwolves took the lead back for good at 6-5, using an 11-2 run to go up 12-6. Overall, Northwood finished the set on a 24-8 run to take the set 25-12 to go up 2-1.
• Once again, Thomas More responded in the fourth set, putting up seven of the first 10 points. Northwood was never led in the set and trailed by as many as nine before making a late run. Trailing 21-12, Northwood scored nine of the next 11 points to get within two at 23-21. The Saints earned the final two points of the set to win 25-21 and force a deciding fifth set.
• Northwood got off to a strong start in the fifth, leading 4-0, 5-1 and 7-3. As they had throughout the match, Thomas More once again responded, eventually coming back to take the lead at 11-10. With the score tied 12-12, the Saints scored the final three points to close out the match 15-12 and earn a 3-2 win.
