Volleyball Earns Two Wins At Midwest Crossover

RECAP: Northwood Volleyball goes 2-0 at the Midwest Regional Crossover Friday (October 17), earning a dramatic 3-2 win over Parkside before downing McKendree 3-1.
INSIDE THE MATCH - PARKSIDE
- Parkside scored the first two points of the match and held the lead for the rest of the set. The Rangers put up seven of the first nine points and later held a 15-9 advantage. Northwood got back within three at 16-13. The Rangers responded with the next three points to push the lead to 19-13 on their way to a 25-21 first set victory.
- Northwood responded to dropping the opener with a dominant second set performance. The Timberwolves scored six of the first eight points and did not look back. With the lead 12-5, NU scored nine of the next 11 points to make the score 21-7. Northwood eventually leveled the match 1-1 with a 25-9 second set win.
- NU broke open a close third set late to take the overall lead. The Rangers led 15-14 when Northwood took control, scoring four straight points to go up 18-14. That run continued the remainder of the set, with the Timberwolves eventually scoring 11 of the final 14 points to take the third 25-18.
- Parkside was the better team early in the third, taking a 14-8 lead. The Timberwolves made a big push, fighting back to take a 16-15 lead. The Rangers made one more run that led to a fifth set, scoring six straight points after trailing 18-17 to go up 23-18. UWP eventually took the fourth 25-21 to force a decisive fifth set.
- The majority of the fifth set was tight – the first timeout game when Northwood was on top 9-6. Parkside responded with three straight points to level the score at 9-9. NU earned their first match point at 14-11, only to see the Rangers score three straight points to level the score at 14-14. The Timberwolves came back with the final two points to earn the match victory at 16-14.

- McKendree scored the first three and four of the first five points of the match. Northwood responded with seven straight points to go up 8-4. The Timberwolves maintained control the rest of the set, holding their biggest at the end (25-16).
- Northwood continued to be the better team at the start of the second, scoring four of the first five points. NU held leads of 7-3 and 15-7 before the Bearcats fought back, scoring seven straight to cut the lead to 15-14. McKendree tied the score three times before Northwood made a run to finish off the set, as the Timberwolves scored the final six points to win 25-19 for a 2-0 lead.
- McKendree held the lead the majority of the third set, starting things off with five of the first seven points. With the Bearcats leading 9-7, McKendree scored five of the next six points to go up 14-8. The Timberwolves fought back to tie the score 17-17. With the score tied 22-22, McKendree scored the final three points to take the third 25-22 to make the overall score 2-1.
- Northwood held an early 6-3 advantage in the fourth, but McKendree fought back to tie the score 9-9. The Bearcats held a 20-18 lead when Northwood made the final key run of the game, scoring five straight points to go up 23-20. NU went on to finish off the match 25-21 to take the overall match 3-1.
