Volleyball Places Three On All-Great Midwest Team
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team placed three student-athletes on the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) team, the league announced Friday (November 21).
Senior setter Renee Brines, senior outside hitter Sage Kissman and junior libero Laney Kokaly were all named Second Team All-Great Midwest.
Brines was a starter and an All-Great Midwest honoree at setter for Northwood all four years of her career. She finished fourth in Northwood history with 4,074 assists. That assist total ranks her 10th among all active Division II volleyball players and is the most for any Northwood player in 24 years. This season, Brines stepped up on the attack, finishing with 138 kills, 62 more than any other season in her career.
Kissman has spent the final two seasons of her career at Northwood. Her senior season has been her best, as she finished with career-highs at 3.75 kills and 2.05 digs while totaling 35 blocks. Kissman was named to the All-Tournament team at the Midwest Crossover, where she had a career-high 26 kills in a win over Parkside. Her kill total in that match is the third most for any player in the conference this season. For her overall career, Kissman finished with 754 kills and 359 digs.
In her first year as Northwood's full-time libero, Kokaly averaged 4.57 digs per set. That put her third overall in the G-MAC. Kokaly finished in double figures in digs in 24 of their 25 matches and at least 17 digs 13 times.
Northwood finished the season 11-14 overall while going 6-9 in G-MAC play.
