Men's Cross Country Sweeps Podium As Teams Host Northwood Invitational

OVERVIEW – NORTHWOOD INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: Fisher Family Trails – Midland, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's cross country kicked off their 2024 season on Saturday (September 7), hosting the Fifth Annual Northwood Cross Country Invitational. Northwood men came out with the team victory with 19 points, while the women placed third with 102 points.

INSIDE THE WOMEN'S RACE (5,000 METERS)

  • NU's women placed third with 102 points. The race included 102 athletes from 10 teams. Wayne St. (Mich.)  won the race with 18 points, while Saginaw Valley St. took second with 51 points.
  • Senior Katherine Haupt led all Timberwolves, taking 17th overall with a personal record 19:15.1 finish. This was nearly a minute faster than her previous best.
  • Northwood's average time was 19:51, with a total time of 1:39.14.

NORTHWOOD RESULTS:

INSIDE THE MEN'S RACE (6,000 METERS)

  • NU's men took first with 19 points. The race included 126 athletes from 10 teams. The top three teams included Davenport taking second with 59 points and Wayne St. (Mich.) third with 95 points.
  • Northwood swept the top three spots, with Preston Earl winning in 18:36.8. Carson Laney (18:39.5) and Sam Smith (18:39.6) rounded out the podium for the Timberwolves.
  • The Timberwolves totaled seven racers within the top eleven finishers.
  • Northwood's average time was 18:46, with a total time of 1:33.49.
