- Northwood got off to a strong start in the first inning, starting with an RBI single from Brendan Hammer.
- Josh Getz followed with an RBI single to make the score 2-0 after a half inning.
- Florida Southern responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to go up 4-2 after one.
- Hammer cut the lead to 4-3 with an RBI single in the top of the second.
- FSC scored single runs in the bottom of the second, third and fifth to go up 7-3.
