RECAP: Baseball goes 1-1 at Lake Erie Saturday (April 18), taking game one 24-5 before falling 5-4 in game two.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SCHEDULED FOR NINE INNINGS)

  • Northwood got off to a fast start in the first inning thanks to two run doubles from both Caden Duryea and Evan Kavalick to earn a 4-0 lead.
  • Duryea added a three-run home run in the top of the second to make the score 7-0.
  • After Lake Erie got on the board in the bottom of the second, Northwood came right back in the third starting with a solo home run for Josh Getz.
  • Evan Larson followed with a sacrifice fly that pushed the score to 9-1.
  • Brendan Hammer got Northwood to 10 runs with an RBI double.
  • Connor McCartan finished of a five-run inning with a two-run triple that made the score 12-1.
  • Northwood broke the game open even more in the fourth, starting with Hammer getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
  • Duryea followed with a bases loaded walk to push the lead to 13 runs.
  • McCartan then brought three more home with a double that put Northwood on top 17-1.
  • Kavalick then hit a two-run homer, which was followed by a Bobby Griffon RBI triple that got Northwood to 20 runs.
  • Payton Guilbeaux capped the nine-run fourth inning with an RBI single that made the score 21-1.
  • The Storm scored three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to cut the lead to 21-5.
  • Guilbeaux drove in two more runs with a triple in the top of the sixth.
  • Emmett McLean's RBI fielder's choice in the seventh rounded out the scoring.
  • With Northwood leading by more than 10 runs after seven innings, the game was ended early due to the run rule.

  • After Lake Erie took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Kavalick connected on a solo home run to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The Storm went back on top in the bottom of the fifth to go back on top 3-2.
  • Northwood came back in the top of the sixth, starting with an RBI triple from Kavalick to tie the score.
  • Getz then gave Northwood the lead with an RBI groundout that made the score 4-3.
  • With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Lake Erie came through with a two-run single that gave the Storm a 5-4 lead.
  • The Timberwolves got two runners on base in the final inning but were unable to score, giving the Storm the victory.
