MIDLAND, MICH. – Senior nickel back Cole Simpson from the Northwood University football team has been named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Defensive Athlete of the Week, the league announced Monday (November 10).

This is the fourth time a Northwood player to earn a G-MAC weekly award this season. Simpson also took home the Defensive Athlete of the Week September 15, while Ethan Hamby earned the Offensive Athlete of the Week October 13 & 20.

Simpson had a big day for the Northwood defense in Northwood's overtime win against Tiffin, finishing with nine tackles, an interception return for a touchdown, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. His 32-yard interception return for a touchdown at the start of the second quarter gave Northwood a 21-7 lead. Simpson currently leads the G-MAC in interceptions while ranking fifth in tackles, third in forced fumbles and 11th in pass breakups.

The Timberwolves have now earned 13 G-MAC Athletes of the Week over the last three seasons.

Northwood heads to its final game of the regular season 8-2 overall, 6-2 in the G-MAC. The Timberwolves will travel to Walsh Saturday (November 15). Kickoff is scheduled for Noon.
