Men's Basketball Drops 92-88 Contest At Missouri-St. Louis

The Northwood University men's basketball dropped its first game of the season Saturday afternoon (November 10), falling at Missouri-St. Louis by the score of 92-88.

The game was the finale of the Coca-Cola GLIAC/GLVC Challenge, hosted by UMSL.

Northwood is now 1-1 on the season.  UMSL improves to 2-0.

After the Timberwolves opened the game with a 3-pointer, the Tritons scored nine straight points to take the early lead.  Northwood fought back throughout the half, only to see UMSL maintain their lead.  The Tritons eventually took a 45-38 lead at halftime.  Northwood trailed at the break despite going 6-9 from 3-point range (66.7 percent).

The Timberwolves came out strong in the second half, going on a 14-3 run to take the lead 52-48.  UMSL responded with a run of their own, netting 11 of the next 14 points to go back up at 59-55. The Tritons extended the lead to 81-68 with 5:18 remaining before Northwood fought its way back into the game.  NU scored 17 points in just over four minutes to get the lead down to three at 88-85 with just under a minute to go.  But Northwood would not get any closer than that in the closing moments.

For the game, Northwood finished at 44.1 percent overall (30-68) and 12-29 from 3-point range.  UMSL shot 46.6 percent overall (27-58) and 38.9 percent from beyond the arc (7-18).  The Tritons earned the win thanks in large part to getting to the foul line, out-scoring Northwood 31-16 at the stripe.

Four Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by freshman Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.).  He scored a career-high 19 points off the bench. Andrew VanDierenDonck (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) added 16, while Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) added 15.  Booker Stoudmire (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) scored 13.

Northwood returns to action next Saturday (November 17) at Indianapolis.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
