Men's Soccer Defeats Indianapolis 1-0 To Open 2014 Season

The Northwood University men's soccer team opened their 2014 season with a 1-0 victory at Indianapolis Friday night (September 5). This was the season-opener for the Greyhounds as well.

The Timberwolves finished the first half with one shot, to go along with five fouls. Keeper, Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark / Tornbjerg) opened the match with a single save on four shots faced. Indy held the advantage in corner kicks (5-1) in the opening period.

NU turned the table in the second half, recording four shots to Indy's two. In the 74th minute, Northwood's Andrew Nugent (Ipswich, England) capitalized on a corner kick from Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Niagara) for the game's lone goal. Nugent, 6-3, finished the corner with a header to give the Timberwolves the win.

For the match, Sterobo totaled just a single save on six shots by the Greyhounds. Nugent finished with two shots and a goal for the Timberwolves, while James DeCosemo (Stokesley, England), Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England / John Hampden) and Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) each added a shot. Indianapolis held the advantage in shots (6-5) and corner kicks (8-2) for the game. In an extremely physical game, the Greyhounds recorded 20 fouls to go with two yellow cards and a single red card. Northwood earned 11 fouls and a single yellow card in the match.
