Cross Country Teams Compete At GLIAC Championships

The Northwood University cross country teams both finished 14th at the 2014 Men's and Women's GLIAC Championships Saturday morning (November 8) in Tiffin, Ohio.

The women's race was the opening event of the day, which was won by Grand Valley State with a team score of 21 claiming their 15th straight conference title. Northwood finished 14th overall with 396 points. The Timberwolves were 9th last year with 212 points. Jennifer Mckenna (Orchard Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) led the way for the Timberwolves, placing 65th overall on the 6K course with a time of 23:06. Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) was close behind at 71st clocking 23:14.6.

Also running for the Timberwolves were Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) at 23:45.4 andEmily Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich.) running 24:50.6. Rounding out for the women's team wereJacqueline Reneaud (Goodrich, Mich.) at 25:41.2 and Julia Cherwinski (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) at 26:40.2. There were a total of 138 runners and 15 teams competing in this year's women's GLIAC Championship.

GVSU also earned the victory on the men's side with a team score of 33. It is the 13th straight GLIAC Championship for the Lakers. Northwood placed 14th in the men's race with a score of 396. Leading the way for the Timberwolves was Tyler Jenson (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) in 63rdplace with a time of 26:10.7 on the 8K course.  

Also competing for the Northwood was Will Moench (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) clocking a 26:33.6, while David Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.), Nick Kaufmann (Hemlock, Mich. ) and Matthew Dippel (Kentwood, Mich./Kentwood) followed close behind at 27:44.5, 27:49.7 and 27:56 respectively. Thomas Rowley (Mt. Pleasant, Mich) rounded out the team on the men's side with a time of 28:32.8. There were a total of 127 runners and 14 teams competing in this years' men's GLIAC Championship.
