Northwood Opens 2025-26 Indoor Season At SVSU’s Holiday Open

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field opened the 2025–26 season Friday (December 5) at the SVSU Holiday Open in University Center, Mich.
INSIDE THE MEET
FOR THE MEN
- Arthur Powell IV was Northwood's top finisher in the 60-meter dash, running 6.98 to open the season. Also, Diogo Vaz and Carson Daniel followed with matching times of 7.02. Powell IV placed ninth and Vaz and Daniel took 12th in a field of 89.
- In the 60m hurdles, Owen Hager qualified for finals with an 8.32 and later ran 8.34 in the finals to take sixth overall, while Noah Retford recorded an 8.51.
- Vaz led Northwood with a 22.05 for a third place finish in the men's 200m dash. Powell IV followed in 22.30 to finish sixth. Vaz's mark moves him to No. 7 in the Northwood all-time top 200m performers list.
- Junior Logan Roka won the men's 800m race with a personal record (PR) of 1:53.84. Two other Timberwolves also placed top 10, with William Haw placing third in 1:54.54, Brandon Thompson finishing ninth at 1:58.61.
- Northwood had four entries in the men's 5K. Matt Grindrod (14:57.11 – 9th), Sam Smith (15:42.76 – 27th), Elliot Carey (personal record (PR) – 16:07.12 – 32nd), and Jacob Wartenberg (16:17.48 – 33rd) all competed for the Timberwolves
- Sophomore Nolan Nixon led Northwood to a first-place finish in the 3000m with a time of 9:07.11, followed by Keegan Masters (9:13.95), freshman Caleb Robinson (9:20.51), and senior Baraka Sila (9:24.31), giving the Timberwolves a sweep of the top four spots.
- In the high jump, newcomer Denali Smith cleared 1.89m, with Evan Hurley at 1.84m and Jack Dewildt at 1.79m. Smith's mark is the eighth-best mark in program history.
FOR THE WOMEN
- In the 60m, Breanna Hyde ran a PR of 8.14, followed by Keiyera Johnson (8.19) and Vivian Williams (8.39). Johnson also competed in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 9.79, and Williams in the 200m, crossing the line at 27.61.
- Hyde also finished fourth in the long jump, leaping 5.39m, just off her other PR.
- Dannyka Johnson moved into 10th all-time for the women's high jump. She cleared 1.47m, which brings her into the top 10 performers list.
- In the 400m, junior Brooklyn Wolcott took fourth with a 1:00.31, and junior Nava Sanocki ran 1:02.90 to place 13th.
- In the 800m, Kaylee Locke ran 2:28.60 to finish 12th.
- Danica Aldrich finished 11th with a time of 11:25.39 in the 3000m, while in the women's 5K, junior Kaylee Aultman ran 19:35.54.
- In the mile, freshman Megan Gottschall placed fourth with a 5:37.78.
- The Northwood 4x400m relay team of Locke, Wolcott, Sanocki, and Johnson placed third with a time of 4:05.21 behind Wayne State (Mich.) at 3:52.45 and Ashland at 3:52.88.
