Kiana Martens Leads Volleyball To 3-2 Win Over Parkside
OVERVIEW – PARKSIDE
SCORE: Northwood Timberwolves 3, Parkside Rangers 2 (19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13)

INSIDE THE MATCH
- With Northwood missing Sydney Hasenfratz, who leads the team in kills and blocks, Parkside raced out to a fast start. UWP held leads of 6-0, 7-1 and 10-2 early. Northwood fought back to get within four at 13-9, but that proved to be as close as the Timberwolves would get. The Rangers led by as many as nine before taking the set 25-19 for a 1-0 lead.
- After a tight start to the second set, a small run Parkside had them up 16-12. Northwood responded with four of the next five points to get within one at 17-16. A 5-1 run later in the set gave the Timberwolves a 21-20 lead. The score was tied 23-23 when NU put up three of the final four points to take the second set 25-23.
- It was Northwood who got off to a fast start in the third set, scoring five of the first six points. Parkside came right back to tie the score at 6-6. With the score tied 8-8, UWP posted 10 of the next 14 points to open up a 18-12 lead. The Timberwolves did get within two at 21-19 but were unable to get any closer that two the remainder of the set. Parkside's 25-22 win in the third gave the Rangers a 2-1 advantage.
- Northwood took the lead for good in the third set at 6-5. An 8-1 run for Northwood put the Timberwolves on top 12-6. Parkside fought back to get within one at 13-12, only to see NU score seven of the next nine points to go on top 20-14. Parkside made one final run, cutting a Northwood 24-18 lead down to 24-22, but the Timberwolves closed out the set 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set.
- The final set was tightly contested through 18 points – the score was tied 9-9 and the biggest lead for either team was two points. The key stretch came with Parkside leading 9-8, as the Timberwolves scored five straight and six of the next seven to get to match point at 14-10. UWP scored the next three points to get within one, but a solo block by Martens closed out the win for Northwood 15-13.
