Men's Tennis Places Three On All-Great Midwest Team
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis teams placed a total of three student-athletes on the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference teams, which were announced Thursday (April 23).
Sophomore Sergio Lopez Guillen and freshman Andrey Pikulin each earned First Team honors, while freshman Marc Ferrando was named Second Team.
Guillen played No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles this season. He was a force at the top of the singles lineup, going 14-1 in singles. Guillen also team with Anderson Duggan to go 12-5 in doubles. He has gone a combined 12-3 in G-MAC play.
Pikulin spent time this season at No. 2 and No. 3 singles as well as at No. 3 doubles. In singles, he went a combined 13-1 (8-1 at No. 2, 5-0 at No. 3). In doubles, Pikulin partnered with Finn Buschmaas to earn a 16-1 record. His record in conference play was a combined 12-1.
Ferrando was a combined 24-8 overall at No. 2/3 singles as well as No. 1 doubles. He was 4-2 at No. 2 singles and 9-0 at No. 3 singles. Ferrando posted an 11-6 record at the top position in doubles. His record in conference play was 14-1 combined.
Northwood finished the regular season 15-2 overall, 7-1 in the G-MAC. NU is the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and will face No. 3 seed Findlay in the semifinals Friday (April 24). First serve is set for 10 a.m.
