RECAP: Northwood Volleyball drops a pair of 3-0 matches at the Midwest Crossover Friday (October 18), falling to No. 4 Ferris State and Maryville.

INSIDE THE MATCH – FERRIS STATE                                                           

  • Set one was evenly played early on, with the score being tied at 4-4. Ferris State led 13-10 when the Bulldogs took over. Northwood got no closer than four after the score was 16-12. FSU eventually took the set 25-13.
  • An early 5-1 run in the second set gave Ferris State a 7-3 lead. The Bulldogs followed with a 7-2 push that made the score 15-6. FSU led by at least six the rest of the way, winning the set 25-14 for a 2-0 overall lead.
  • In the third set, NU trailed 8-7 before Ferris State went on a big run. The Bulldogs scored eight of the next nine points to take a 16-8 lead. FSU finished the match by scoring seven of the last nine points to win the set 25-13 and the match 3-0.

  • Northwood started the match with four of the first five points of the match, only to see Maryville score seven of the next eight to give the Saints an 8-6 lead. That Maryville run eventually reached 19-3, which made the score 20-7. MU eventually took the opening set 25-10 for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Saints kept the momentum going early in the second set, getting out to a 7-3 lead. Northwood got back within one at 8-7, only to see the Saints score six of the next seven points. The Timberwolves got no closer than four the rest of the set, which was won by Maryville 25-15 to give MU a 2-0 lead.
  • NU fell behind 9-5 in the third set before fighting back to level the score at 11-11. With Maryville holding a 14-13 lead, the Saints scored seven of the next nine points to go on top 21-15. MU went on to close out the sweep 25-18.
