Volleyball Earns Three Wins At Walsh Invitational

RECAP: Northwood Volleyball picks up a pari of wins at the Walsh Invitational Friday afternoon (September 12), defeating Seton Hill and IUP 3-0.

INSIDE THE MATCH – SETON HILL

  • Northwood set the tone for the match right away, putting up the first five points. The Timberwolves led the rest of the set, not allowing Seton Hill to get any closer than two the rest of the way. NU went on to take the opening set 25-15, matching the largest lead of the first.
  • The Griffons got off to a better start in the second set, taking a 5-2 lead early. Trailing 8-5, Northwood responded with a big push, going on a 12-1 run to go up 17-9. The Timberwolves did not look back the rest of the way, eventually taking the second set 25-13.
  • Northwood kept the momentum going into the third, scoring four of the first five points. The Timberwolves held the lead from 2-1 on, going up by as many as 14 (24-10). NU closed out the match 25-12 to earn the victory.

INSIDE THE MATCH – IUP

  • Northwood took the lead for good in the opening set at 4-3. With the Timberwolves on top 11-9, NU posted five straight points to go up 16-9. The Hawks got no closer than four the rest of the set, which was one by Northwood 25-16.
  • At 15-15 in the second, IUP scored three straight for the first three-point advantage for either side. The Hawks led 20-17 when the Timberwolves finished the set with a run. NU scored six of the next seven points to go up 23-21. The teams alternated points the rest of the way, giving Northwood a 2-0 lead after taking the set 25-23.
  • Northwood took the lead early in the third with an 8-2 run. The Hawks chipped away at the lead, getting within two at 18-16. That was a close as IUP would get, however, as the Timberwolves closed out their second sweep of the day at 25-20.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

  • Northwood was also scheduled to play Central State at the event, but CSU dropped out of the tournament. The scheduled match now goes down as a no-contest for both teams.
